The concept for Dini’s tinis began with a great idea and a pandemic. My wife and I had our first date at Wally’s Café in Boston back in January of 1996, as we bonded over music, martinis, and great company. It was an eventful night that was certainly one for the books, as we’ve been together ever since.
Over the years, we have perfected the art of making our favorite drink: martinis. When the pandemic hit and the world shut down, everything was uncertain. At that time, a lot of RTD (ready to drink) cans were emerging onto the scene but they were all aimed at a younger crowd. Nothing wrong with that…I’m just not that guy.
However, I did really like the concept of something other than beer coming out of a can. Inspiration struck and I knew I was onto a creative idea that we could both enjoy.
One morning in the middle of the pandemic, I was getting frustrated because I couldn’t quite put a finger on what I wanted to do with my idea. Suddenly I was struck by something a friend had once said about me: “Jonny Schein. You can’t stop him, you can only hope to contain him.” It’s true! I laugh just thinking about him saying that in front of everyone.
Then I said to myself: why can’t I figure out a way to put my martinis in a can? So I did. The Dini’s tinis brand is a culmination of four 20-proof recipes that my wife and I have been using for years, and I’m so happy I can now share them with you. Enjoy!
Back in the old neighborhood (JP Boston), I grew up with a great bunch of guys. You could always find us at the monument.
We are all still loyal friends to this day but not all of us made it to now. I really wish some of the older fellas were still around as they always made a point to make us laugh about what we were doing. They were also good at telling you what to look out for, what to say or even how things should be done -- advice you wouldn’t really take but it was always funny to hear. I can only imagine what would be said now about me doing this.
So back then most of us had nicknames, and my friends started calling me Jonny Dangerously, which is funny because then I was more a lover than a fighter. But it then changed to Jonny D and finally one of my closest friends to this day gave me the more redefined DINI.
When I am out and hear someone yell Dini! I know it’s someone close to me, which always makes me smile as it brings back a quick flash of good memories.
I recently finished working one of the best careers in entertainment and venue security.
For the past 16 years, I was Director of Security for one of the busiest theatres in Boston working more than 300 shows a year. I worked with some of the biggest comedians, bands and podcasters out there, along with actors, directors, sports figures, and politicians.
Over time and working with a lot of these people on a yearly basis, I have had the pleasure to create some special relationships which I am very grateful for. Not a lot of people get to have this opportunity, so I consider myself a lucky guy.
With so many years of constant work, I was able to get a great collection of some pictures with the biggest and nicest entertainers in the industry.
I have been around the block a few times and have worked hard at everything I have done. Every job you have, you think it is going to last forever. Things change. People too. So I knew I had to figure things out. I have never put more blood, sweat, and cheers into anything like this before. It certainly has become a passion with a whole lot of motivation behind it.
Like everyone says, “you can’t stop him, you can only hope to contain him,” which is true but I also would like to let you know I live by the mantra, “We’re not here for a long time, we are here for a good time.”
